I was at Elizabeth Warren’s last rally of her 2020 presidential bid

And I saw the higher ground she was on

On March 3, 2019, at around 6:50 PM, I walked into the Eastern Market arena in Detroit. I met one of the dozens of voluteers standing outside. I was asked to text a code to a specific number. Once I did that, within a few seconds, I received a response from that number with a beautiful picture of Bailey (Warren’s dog) hiding under what seemed like a couch, unperturbed by the sheath of emptiness around, but peering sharply with a lot of focus on the camera lens. It was as if Bailey, the golden retriever, was pleading with his mom, “Are you done yet? Can you come home? I promise I will be a good boy..”.

To attend the event, I had to show the above picture of Bailey on my phone and another volunteer stamped my right hand with a paw print before letting me in.

It was Super Tuesday. As I walked into the warehouse which had been converted ino a mini-campaign arena, I saw rows of chairs at the back lined behind a tall platform. There were more volunteers sitting on those chairs, half of them looked dazed and disheveled, but all of them were busy crunching data into their laptop computers. There was a peaceful war room vibe. And a few feet ahead of them, on top of this 15 ft. platform, were cameramen and media anchors who…
