99 Songs
Even though AR Rahman may not have planned for this kind of a no-frills release for his dream soundtrack, 99 Songs, a movie for which he not only has scored music but also has written the story and has produced it (his maiden production under the YM Movies label), he couldn’t have asked for a better time to release this album.
If there is one thing we all have aplenty right now, it’s time. And boy, is there a better way to invest your time in than getting immersed in this album, filled with 14 glorious tracks (you read it right. F-O-U-R-T-E-E-N) that keep reminding you why we all love Rahman.
This post is not a review. Like with all AR Rahman’s albums, I am writing this after giving this album multiple listens (at least a dozen times) because it’s hard for me to get into the soul of each song unless and until I have had a chance to absorb everything about it.
This post is really just a collection of notes about each track.
These song notes are loosely in the order of my liking as of March 25, 2020. I had to emphasize the date because this order might change tomorrow, thus making this order completely irrelevant whenever you read this.
